Once a week I snoop around the office, bothering my coworkers with questions on what they’re reading, listening to, consuming, or any other random inquiries I’d like to subject them to. Sometimes they even respond.
The question: 1. What is your favorite app and why? The answers:David, CEO
Evernote – Best practical app. Couldn’t live without it now.
pwSafe – Keeps hundreds of passwords secure and syncs with PC version.
Atomic Web – Truly private browsing. Most googling done here now. (Bing is default on Safari.)
Leafsnap – Identifies and geotags tree species by taking a picture of a leaf.
LiveATC – Allows you to listen to ATC around in the world in real time. Nerdy pilot stuff.
Jim, Systems Administrator
Google Reader – Because of its ability to aggregate a mass of data into a single feed for easy consumption. They should really fix “sort by magic” though.
Kate, Support Engineer
Epicurious – Find recipes based on what you have in your kitchen or special events. Or both! (ie: “It’s Thanksgiving and all I have are avocados and raisins!” Epicurious will give you a recipe.)
Tofu Notes – Super basic note taking interface. Lists or reminders or timer-based tasks. Hella useful and it only has 5 buttons in the entire app (No joke. 5)
Shortyz – Everyday every syndicated crossword puzzle. I am unnaturally addicted to crosswords.
Kristen, Sales Rep
Voxer – This is a “walkie talkie” app that allows you to talk to your contacts by one push of a button. It stores the message as a conversation and you can play back each message whenever you like. This is helpful when you are driving and can’t text message. I find it to be a quick and easy way to communicate and it’s also safe. Reminds me of the old Nextel two-way but way cooler!
Claire, Marketing & Development Manager
NPR – This is super-dorky, but I love the NPR app. It has almost all of the channel radio shows as podcasts!
Steve, Director of Sales Pandora – Gets me introduced to new artists and music. Evernote – Keeps track of all of my info. Strava – Tracks all of my workout info. Errands – Faster than Evernote and easier for me to keep track of to-do lists. PW Keeper – Keeps track of pwords.Shane, Development Intern
NASA – It has some amazing pictures!
Nick, Software Engineer
Catch The Bus (IPhone) – It lets me do neat things, like pretend to be a psychic just before the bus comes. It also lets me know when I should actually leave my apartment so I can arrive at the stop and not have to wait, or decide whether or not I have time to grab coffee.
Ozgur, Sales Engineer
Quickoffice (Android) – I use it all the time to take notes and even write down my stand-up routines.
Ramon, VP of Development
NewsRob – Because when I’m on the bus or subway I like to read, but don’t always have a book or reception, and it caches all my favorite feeds/blogs/news sources without my having to think about it.
Christiana, Graphic Designer
Camera + – Love this camera app for the endless combinations of improving photos with all the filters, shooting modes, and enhancements it offers.
Fun fact: Co-founder Lisa Bettany went on an “Around the World with an iPhone and Camera+ Adventure,” (5 Continents, 15 Countries, 50 Days) where she posted her daily favorite photos representing freedom and creativity in iPhoneography.
Hipstamatic – Another awesome camera app. This one lets you interchange various lenses, film, and flashes, which you can purchase from their online store (some free) for some really cool photo effects.
Chris, Support Engineer
Out of Milk – Out of Milk is a really nifty grocery shopping app that allows you to scan bar codes to keep track of your pantry. When you run out of something, it is then easy to move it to your shopping list for next time. It has a very intuitive interface and you can scale the level of detail for everything! For nutrition nerds like myself, it is important to know how many ounces of beef one has left in the freezer.
Elise, Social Media & Content Manager
Shazam – Listens to the song playing around you and then records it. I’m terrible at identifying songs/artists and committing them to memory. So this lets me keep track of it via my tags. Plus, I just enjoy saying, “I’m going to Shazam that.”
Bump – Lets you share/transfer pictures, videos, contact info, and links with your friends around you by fist bumping with your phones. It’s also fun to say.
